Col. D. Has assumed command of the Israel Defense Forces' Samaria Brigade, succeeding Col. Ariel Gonen after a two-year tenure, according to an announcement from the Israeli military on Wednesday.

The change of command took place Tuesday at Samaria National Park, with Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth and Judea and Samaria Division commander Brig. Gen. Kobi Heller in attendance.

Heller noted that the brigade operates in regions of "the highest security, national and historical importance." He acknowledged Gonen's work expanding counterterrorism operations and implementing changes in Nablus during his command.

The new commander previously led the Golani Reconnaissance Unit in combat operations in Gaza and Lebanon, the IDF said.

Gonen will pursue studies at the National Security College.
