Congressional Candidate Shinkle Warns Mamdani's Agenda Will "Devastate New York City"

Republican congressional candidate Caroline Shinkle has warned that New York City faces a critical juncture, contending that policies associated with Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Democratic Socialists of America pose risks to the city's economic health and security.

Speaking on the Viktor Frankl Podcast with Rabbi Daniel Schonbuch, Shinkle, the Republican nominee for New York's 12th Congressional District, framed the election as a choice between free-market economics and socialist policies. A corporate attorney and economist educated at MIT and Harvard Law School, Shinkle has held positions at the Federal Reserve, the Bank of Israel, and the European Central Bank.

She attributed New York's affordability crisis to prolonged government overspending, elevated taxes, and policies that discourage business investment. "We need to bring jobs, capital, investment, and opportunity back to New York City," She said, citing public safety, tax reduction, educational reform, and support for Israel as issues with cross-party appeal.

The discussion also addressed the increase in antisemitic incidents across the city. Shinkle faulted elected officials for insufficient condemnation of anti-Jewish hatred and criticized Mayor Mamdani's response to recent antisemitic incidents. "What the Jewish community really needs right now is a true champion... who will always stand unapologetically with them and with the State of Israel," She said, referencing her personal connections to Israel and prior work at the Bank of Israel.

On economic policy, Shinkle linked persistent federal deficits to inflation and hardship for working families. She proposed eliminating federal income tax on W-2 wages up to $150,000 and balancing the budget to reduce inflation and stimulate growth. She also opposed measures such as New York's pied-à-terre tax, warning that higher taxation and policies targeting high earners drive residents and businesses toward states like Florida and Texas.

"We're going to shock the system and show that Manhattan is back and that Manhattan is open for business," She said.

Shinkle cautioned that the Democratic Socialists of America's reach extends beyond local governance, urging New Yorkers to consider the broader consequences of policies limiting private investment and expanding government authority. She expressed confidence that voters across both parties would embrace what she termed common-sense solutions to restore economic opportunity, enhance public safety, and address antisemitism.
