DIPLOMATIC SHIFT: Israel And Venezuela Renew Consular Relations

Israel and Venezuela announced Tuesday that they are renewing consular relations, establishing an official channel of coordination between the two countries after diplomatic ties were severed in 2009. The agreement follows recent talks between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia.

Under the arrangement, the two countries will establish a coordination mechanism to provide consular services to citizens of both nations. Full diplomatic relations are not being restored at this stage, but the move creates an official communication channel between the governments.

The countries also agreed to continue cooperating on emergency response and reconstruction efforts following earthquakes in Venezuela. An Israeli aid delegation was sent to the country after earthquakes struck on June 24, with the mission led by Israel's Foreign Ministry and Home Front Command providing professional assistance to emergency response and reconstruction work.

A joint statement issued by both nations highlighted the importance of the relationship between Israel and Venezuela's Jewish community.
