DISARMAMENT FORCE: Israel, Lebanon Agree On Four Countries For Possible International Hezbollah Inspection Mission

Israel and Lebanon have agreed to consider Britain, Italy, Switzerland and Indonesia as potential participants in an international mechanism designed to deploy foreign troops to Lebanon for verifying Hezbollah's disarmament, according to Reuters. The proposal came out of U.S.-mediated talks held in Rome the previous week. The four countries could contribute to developing the mechanism, supplying personnel or troops for inspection missions, which would encompass checks of southern Lebanese villages to confirm the absence of weapons. A point of disagreement remains between the parties: Israel seeks inspections that extend to private residences, while the Lebanese army has objected to such searches without legal warrants.
