EBOLA SCARE: Israel Isolates Traveler Who Developed Symptoms After Returning From Congo

Israel's Health Ministry announced that a traveler returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo has been isolated after developing symptoms consistent with possible Ebola infection. The ministry emphasized the case remains unconfirmed and is currently suspected only.

The individual arrived in Israel several days prior and sought medical care after developing a fever. The patient is being treated under isolation at Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva following established medical protocols. Tests are underway to determine infection status, with results expected within 24 hours. An epidemiological investigation is also in progress to identify potential contacts and assess whether additional precautions are needed.

The Health Ministry noted it has been monitoring recent Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. Israeli health authorities have conducted preparedness assessments to ensure hospitals are equipped to respond to a potential case.

The ministry recommends Israelis avoid nonessential travel to areas with active Ebola outbreaks, particularly affected regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. Those who must travel should seek individualized guidance from a travelers' health clinic beforehand.

For travelers returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo or Uganda, particularly from areas with active transmission, the Health Ministry issued instructions that anyone developing a fever or unusual symptoms within 21 days should remain home, avoid contact with others, and call the Kol Habriut hotline. Callers should inform health officials of recent travel to areas experiencing Ebola cases so appropriate precautions can be taken.

The ministry reiterated that the hospitalized traveler has not been diagnosed with Ebola and the case remains under investigation pending laboratory results.
