Flights Grounded As Drone Enters Ben Gurion Airport's Airspace

A drone entered restricted airspace near Ben Gurion Airport at approximately 11:40 a.m., prompting airport security to respond swiftly. Control center personnel detected the unauthorized aircraft heading toward the facility, and officials soon confirmed it had crossed into the airport's municipal area.

Airport operations, security units, and ground crews coordinated an immediate response while Ben Gurion Airport police began searching for the drone's operator. Once the drone entered the restricted zone, officials ordered a temporary halt to flight operations that lasted only a few minutes. Airport control personnel monitored the drone's movements throughout the incident to maintain safety.

Using surveillance technology, ground observations, and real-time tracking from the control room, authorities located the drone and directed police to its operator. Within an hour of the initial detection, police took the individual into custody.

An initial investigation revealed the operator had been flying the drone to record promotional footage for a construction company.

The Israel Airports Authority stated that operating drones without authorization near Ben Gurion Airport "poses a serious threat to aviation safety."
