Six individuals will face charges related to a thwarted attack on a synagogue in the Paris suburb of Sarcelles on July 12, according to France's anti-terrorism prosecutor.

The identities of the six have not been disclosed, though the prosecutor confirmed the plot was Islamist motivated. The suspects were arrested following an incident on July 11, when approximately 300 people were evacuated from the synagogue after a suspicious vehicle was discovered outside the building.

Police discovered firearms in the vehicle, including a "military-grade weapon," French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said.

France, which has Europe's largest Jewish and Muslim populations, has experienced an increase in antisemitic incidents since the outbreak of conflict between Israel and Hamas in October 2023.
