The French national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office was considering whether to launch an investigation following a stabbing attack in Paris on Monday.
Three young women were stabbed near Porte de Clichy by a man wielding two kitchen knives, according to Reuters. Police detained the suspect at the scene. When apprehended, he reportedly stated, "It is Allah who commanded me."
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez identified the victims as ages 19, 24, and 36, noting that two were severely wounded. He said bystanders and an off-duty police officer helped restrain the suspect.
Nunez indicated the motive remained unknown. The World Jewish Congress responded by offering prayers for the victims' recovery and observing that the attack was the second Islamist-inspired incident in Europe within 48 hours, following a car ramming attack in Berlin on Saturday.
