Camp L'man Achai campers recently completed a busy stretch of their summer that included an annual New York City trip and a Color War competition.
The group departed before dawn by coach bus to visit the Ohel, where campers davened using materials they had prepared during learning class. They then traveled to Crown Heights for a tour that included stops at local Judaica shops, a kosher supermarket, and a sofer's workshop displaying vintage tefillin and mezuzahs. The campers visited the Rebbe's room, gathered at 770 for a rally and Mincha, took a camp photo, and enjoyed ice cream at Sweet Expressions.
The remainder of their New York visit was divided by age group. Younger campers rode the Staten Island Ferry to view the skyline and Statue of Liberty, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, and explored Lower Manhattan. Teens visited Midtown attractions including Times Square and the 9/11 Memorial, and attended a baseball game at Yankee Stadium. During their Manhattan time, campers engaged in mivtzoim, putting on tefillin with Jewish passersby, described as a first-time experience of open Jewish pride for several participants.
Following their return, campers observed Tisha B'Av days later. Many fasted for the first time, while staff organized educational activities including an interactive Shofar Factory, Havdalah candle making, and crafting of leather Challah covers and Tzedaka pouches using materials donated by Prestige Embroidery. The camp's summer programming combined outdoor activities with spiritual engagement and Jewish education.
