The Rebbe requested that on the yahrzeit of his father, Harav Levi Yitzchok Schneerson, people gather for a farbrengen to study his teachings and give tzedakah in his memory.
SoulWords will host a special Chof Av program this Sunday night at the SoulWords House, located half a block from the Ohel, in response to that request.
Rabbi Shais Taub and Rabbi Elkanah Shmotkin of Jewish Educational Media, author of Early Years, will present a program called "His Father's Shoes." The two will examine a short thank-you letter written by the Rebbe's father to the Rebbe, in which he thanked the Rebbe for sending him a pair of shoes.
Rabbi Shmotkin will provide historical context and present a never-before-published facsimile of the letter from the Library of Agudas Chasidei Chabad, detailing the story behind the Rebbe's gift. Rabbi Taub will then analyze the letter line by line, exploring the Torah teachings within it.
The in-person program for men takes place Sunday, the eve of Chof Av, from 9:30 to 11:00 PM ET at SoulWords House, located at 120-23 228th Street in Cambria Heights. The event will also be available online.
