IDF Deploys Joint Humanitarian Delegation To Colombia After Earthquake

A joint Israeli humanitarian delegation is scheduled to depart for Colombia on Thursday night to assist with search-and-rescue operations following an earthquake in the country, the Israel Defense Forces announced.

The mission, known as "Alliance of Brothers," Is being conducted in accordance with directives from the political echelon and involves the IDF, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation is jointly led by the Home Front Command and the Foreign Ministry.

Members will fly on Israeli Air Force aircraft from Nevatim Airbase. Upon arrival, the team is expected to begin search-and-rescue work immediately.

The goal of the mission is to provide rapid assistance in locating and rescuing survivors, including through the use of quick mapping of affected sites, according to Maj. Gen. Shay Klepper, commander of the Home Front Command.

Brig. Gen. (Res.) Yossi Pinto, commander of the National Search and Rescue Unit, is leading the 80-member delegation. The group includes active-duty and reserve personnel specializing in rescue operations and other relevant fields.
