The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the elimination of Muhammad Bassam Muhammad Mushtaha, a Hamas company commander in the Shati' Battalion of Hamas' military wing. Mushtaha participated in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israeli territory that killed approximately 1,200 people and resulted in more than 250 hostages being taken.

According to the IDF, Mushtaha was struck two weeks ago in the northern Gaza Strip. Throughout the conflict, he was involved in holding multiple hostages in captivity, including Tsachi Idan, Cpl. Noa Marciano, Ziv Berman, Omri Miran, Ori Megidish, Naama Levy and Matan Angrerst.

The military stated that Mushtaha had recently attempted to advance terror attacks against Israeli troops and civilians. The IDF said it took steps to mitigate civilian harm before the strike, including the use of precise munitions and aerial surveillance.

IDF troops under the Southern Command remain deployed in the area in accordance with existing agreements and will continue operating to remove threats, according to the statement.
