The Israel Defense Forces announced Sunday that it had killed Hamam Eid, the head of Hamas's drone cell operating in Gaza's central camps sector, in an airstrike carried out Saturday.
According to the military, Eid "was responsible for the production of UAVs for the Hamas terrorist organization in the central camps, intended to harm Israeli civilians and IDF troops." The statement noted that he previously led the Drone Unit in the central camps and "took part in planning and carrying out aerial terrorist attacks against IDF troops."
The IDF said Eid had been working to restore and strengthen Hamas's aerial capabilities in violation of the ceasefire agreement. The military stated that precautions were taken ahead of the strike to reduce risk to noncombatants, including the use of precise munitions and aerial surveillance.
The IDF said its forces, which remain deployed in Gaza under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire that began Oct. 10, 2025, will continue to eliminate "any immediate threat." The current truce ended a two-year conflict that began with the Oct. 7, 2023 invasion of the northwestern Negev. Under the first phase of the agreement, the IDF controls over half of Gaza.
