The Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday it had detected missiles fired from Iran aimed at the Jordanian city of Aqaba, cautioning that impacts could extend into Israeli territory. The military warned that air-raid sirens might sound in southern Israel as a precautionary measure and instructed the public: "If a siren is sounded, the public is instructed to enter a protected space and remain there until further notice."
The IDF noted there was no immediate change to Home Front Command guidelines, though the public would be updated if instructions changed following a situational assessment.
The statement followed a U.S. Embassy alert in Amman urging Americans to avoid Aqaba's port and nearby airport, citing a "specific and credible threat" That prompted Jordanian authorities to evacuate both facilities. "We strongly advise all Americans to refrain traveling to either the airport or seaport," The embassy said.
A Jordanian government spokesperson told the state-run Petra News Agency that "the relevant Jordanian authorities have not recorded any potential threats during the past several hours," Adding that "Aqaba airport and the seaport are operating normally."
The U.S. Warning came after Iranian missile and drone attacks on military facilities in Jordan on Friday that killed two U.S. Service members, with a third remaining missing.
