A senior commander in the Mujahideen Brigades was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza this week, the Israel Defense Forces said.
Ahmed Hussein Mohammed Kafina, the group's commander for the central Gaza area, was eliminated Tuesday in a precise aerial strike, according to the military. The Mujahideen Brigades is a relatively small terror organization allied with Hamas operating in the Gaza Strip.
The IDF said that "Kafina planned and directed the group's terrorists' raid into the territory of the State of Israel during the October 7 massacre, and took part in the abduction of Avinatan Or and Noa Argamani, and in directing the abduction of Sudthisak Rinthalak."
The military said the strike was carried out during the ongoing ceasefire because Kafina had planned attacks against Israeli troops and civilians and posed an immediate threat. "The terrorist posed an immediate threat to the troops and was eliminated in a precise aerial strike," The IDF added.
Rinthalak was killed during the October 7 onslaught, and his body was later returned by Hamas. Argamani was rescued by Israeli forces in a June 2024 operation, while Or was released from Gaza last year.
