IDF's First Charedi Reserve Battalion Completes Initial Exercise, Prepares for Operational Deployment

The IDF's first reserve battalion of the Hasmonean Brigade, the Shimon Battalion (1200), successfully completed its initial battalion-level military exercise in the Golan Heights, demonstrating the unit's establishment and readiness for operational service.

During the exercise, troops trained across multiple combat scenarios including open-field warfare, raid operations, and urban combat as part of final deployment preparations.

The battalion is expected to begin operational missions in Israel's northern sector over coming months and throughout the High Holiday period based on operational requirements.

Shimon is the first reserve battalion within the Hasmonean Brigade and comprises graduates of the IDF's "Phase B" Enlistment track, which incorporates charedi men who previously held military exemptions but volunteered for reserve duty, alongside charedi soldiers transferred from other IDF units.

Recruits completed a full infantry training program at the Hasmonean Brigade's training base, specially adapted for charedi lifestyle needs. The battalion is expected to absorb graduates from the brigade's regular-service track going forward.

Soldiers underwent specialized courses in explosives and demolition, fire support, drone operations, anti-tank warfare, combat medicine, and mortar operations. These courses were tailored to charedi servicemen's needs and aimed to develop the battalion as a fully self-sufficient combat unit.

According to the IDF, dozens of new regular and reserve battalions have been established since the war's outbreak to expand military manpower. The effort aims to increase active servicemen while reducing strain on existing regular and reserve forces.
