The Israel Defense Forces said it killed a commander from the Kataeb al-Mujahideen terrorist group in southern Gaza this week who participated in the abduction of hostages Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or during the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led invasion.
Ahmed Hussein Mohammed Kafina, who oversaw the central Gaza area for the group, also directed the abduction of Sudthisak Rinthalak, a 43-year-old Thai farm worker who was killed in Kibbutz Be'eri on October 7 and whose body was taken into Gaza, according to the military. During the war and recent months, Kafina advanced terrorist attacks against Israeli troops and civilians. He was eliminated Tuesday in a precision aerial strike after posing an immediate threat to nearby troops.
Argamani and Or were abducted from the Supernova music festival. Argamani was released on June 8, 2024, after 245 days in captivity as part of a military rescue mission. Or was released on October 13, 2025, after 738 days following a Hamas agreement involving the release of Palestinian security prisoners.
In a separate strike Thursday, the IDF and Israeli Security Agency killed Hamas commander Abd al-Rahim Abd al-Hay Youssef Kardi, who also worked as a doctor at Gaza City's Shifa Hospital. Kardi held Israeli civilian Romi Gonen in captivity and held the body of Corporal Noa Marciano following her murder. The military said Kardi infiltrated Israeli territory on October 7 and was involved in holding Gonen captive in Gaza City and Shifa Hospital in the early stages of the war. "Throughout the war and in recent months, Kardi continued to advance terror attacks targeting IDF troops and Israeli civilians. The terrorist posed a threat to the troops and was eliminated in an aerial strike," The military said.
On Wednesday, the IDF killed Muhammad Al-Abed, a Hamas supply officer, and Ahmad Ma'in Muhammad Anqar, a Hamas commander, during strikes across the Strip after they posed a threat to Israeli soldiers.
