IRAN SHAKEUP: Mojtaba Khamenei Announces New Senior Military And IRGC Appointments

Iranian authorities announced a series of senior military appointments on Monday as Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei carried out a broad reshuffling of leadership across the country's armed forces, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Basij militia.

The appointments included Ali Abdollahi as commander of the armed forces, with Kioumars Heydari in the deputy role. Ahmad Vahidi was formally appointed IRGC commander, while Mostafa Izadi became his deputy. Ali Azmaei was named commander of the IRGC Navy.

Ayatollah Hossein Taeb was placed in charge of the Basij. Taeb previously served as commander of IRGC intelligence before his removal in 2022 following operational setbacks. According to reporting, he had failed to prevent Israeli operations within Iran and was unsuccessful in carrying out retaliatory attacks against Israelis in Turkey and other locations.

The reshuffle represents a significant realignment of senior command positions across multiple key Iranian military and security institutions.
