Israel's military confirmed this week that it is building a physical barrier along the "yellow line" In Gaza, after the Associated Press presented the Israel Defense Forces with satellite imagery of the construction.
The military described the project as part of a broader security zone designed to prevent infiltration and protect troops and nearby Israeli communities, incorporating advanced intelligence and technological infrastructure.
Satellite imagery shows the barrier extending more than 23 kilometers across Gaza, with significant expansion occurring in recent months. The military declined to provide details about the barrier's complete route or intended final extent but said it is working to clearly mark the line. The line was designated as a temporary boundary under a U.S.-backed ceasefire agreement with the Hamas organization that led the Oct. 7, 2023 invasion of southern Israel, which initiated the war in Gaza.
Imagery indicates the barrier continues to expand in southern and central Gaza, including near Rafah and Khan Yunis, with additional sections in the north.
