Israeli Health Ministry: Man suspected of having Ebola quarantined

A man in Israel suspected of contracting Ebola during a visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo is being quarantined, the Israeli Health Ministry announced Tuesday.

The patient returned to Israel several days ago and sought medical care after developing a fever. Tests are underway, with results expected within 24 hours. He is isolated at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva under standard protocols, and an epidemiological investigation has been initiated.

The ministry advised the public against non-essential travel to areas with active Ebola transmission, including the DRC and Uganda. Those planning travel to these regions should consult a travel medicine clinic.

Travelers returning from the DRC or Uganda who develop fever or unusual symptoms within 21 days are instructed to stay home, avoid contact with others, and call the ministry's Kol HaBriut health hotline at *5400.

Israel previously announced it had sent three tons of medical aid to the DRC to support its response to an Ebola outbreak.
