The Israel Defense Forces has commenced its July-August 2026 recruitment cycle, bringing thousands of new inductees into service. The call-up occurs amid ongoing security challenges in multiple sectors, including Lebanon and Gaza, and as the third anniversary of the October 7 massacre approaches.
August represents one of three annual periods when the IDF conducts major recruitment drives for combat units, alongside March and November/December cycles. The August draft is the largest of these recruitment periods and encompasses the majority of recruits assigned to combat roles, spanning infantry, armored, combat engineering, artillery and certain combat intelligence positions.
