Israeli sailors Roy Levy and Ariel Gal earned the silver medal at the 470 Junior World Championships in Gdynia, Poland, on July 17, finishing as runners-up in a closely contested competition.
Levy and Gal were defending junior world champions heading into the Medal Series, where they began tied for first place alongside Italy's Lisa Vucetti and Vittorio Bonifacio. The Israeli pair won the opening Medal Series race to maintain their position level with the Italians. In the final race, however, Levy and Gal placed seventh while the Italian crew finished third, allowing Italy to claim the title on a tiebreak despite both teams ending with equal points. France's Lomane Valade and Julien Bunel secured the bronze medal.
Israel's official social media account described the result as "a fantastic achievement for Israeli sailing," Noting that Levy and Gal had finished as world runners-up after the intense competition for gold.
The championship took place as part of Gdynia Sailing Days, which ran from July 11 to 17. The 470 class, named for its 4.70-meter length, has been featured in the Olympic Games since 1976.
