Israeli forces killed several Hezbollah terrorists in an encounter at the Ali al-Taher Ridge area on Saturday, roughly six miles north of the Lebanese border, according to the military. An IDF officer sustained moderate injuries during the clash and was taken to a hospital, with his family informed of the incident.
"The IDF will continue to operate to remove any threat to its soldiers and will not allow the Hezbollah terrorist organization to harm Israeli civilians," The military stated.
In a separate overnight operation Thursday, the Israeli military destroyed a network of Hezbollah tunnels in the Beaufort Castle area of Southern Lebanon. The underground complex, reportedly containing approximately 700 tons of explosive devices, was constructed over two decades with Iranian funding and served as a command center for Hezbollah's Bader Unit in the region.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu characterized the tunnel demolition as a response to Hezbollah's "blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement" On Wednesday, when the organization launched an explosive drone at an IDF engineering vehicle.
The United Nations expressed concern about the recent escalation, stating: "The scale of the detonations and demolitions taking place in south Lebanon is deeply concerning, with a devastating impact on civilian infrastructure, cultural heritage and the collective memory of communities."
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called the detonation "an extremely dangerous escalation" And "a direct threat to the process which was launched as part of the framework agreement" Established through U.S.-mediated negotiations in July.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday described the Israeli-Lebanese framework as "unprecedented," Noting that "this is the first time the Israelis and the Lebanese government have spoken, at the official level, in close to 30 years." While significant work remains, Rubio said peace remains "achievable."
U.S.-led talks between Israel and Lebanon will resume in Rome on August 4-6, with technical teams focusing on implementing the trilateral framework agreement, expanding pilot zones, resolving border disputes, and pursuing a comprehensive peace and security accord.
