KENNEDY OVERHAUL: Trump-Led Board Moves Ahead With $250 Million Renovation, 2028 Reopening

The Trump-led Kennedy Center board voted Thursday to advance plans for closing the center's main building to undertake renovations while maintaining limited programming at its newer REACH addition. The board reviewed a 163-page renovation plan budgeted at $250 million, which encompasses structural repairs, new marble floors, and $11.8 million allocated for acoustical improvements. The proposal is scheduled for reopening in summer 2028. The decision remains subject to review by U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper, who had previously issued a temporary block on an earlier closure vote, determining it had been "ill-informed and seemingly preordained."
