Lebanese President Joseph Aoun was scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday.

The visit represented the first by a Lebanese head of state to the White House in nearly two decades and Aoun's first in-person meeting with Trump. Aoun is a former commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces.

The trip occurred as the U.S. Oversaw negotiations between Jerusalem and Beirut aimed at disarming the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist group and securing the border region. Pilot zones were being tested to transition Israeli forces out of Lebanon in favor of Lebanese forces.
