Mamdani Says Wife Will Travel Without NYPD Detail

Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Tuesday that his wife, Rama Duwaji, will travel to Syria and Lebanon next month without an NYPD security detail.

Mamdani attributed the earlier confusion to a "miscommunication" Between City Hall and the police department regarding whether officers would accompany Duwaji on the trip.

"She has not yet taken that trip and when she takes that trip it will be without any NYPD detail," Mamdani said.

The statement followed the NYPD's explanation that it does not deploy officers to countries under Level 4 U.S. Travel advisories for personal trips unrelated to investigative purposes.

Duwaji is scheduled to visit family in Syria and Lebanon starting Sept. 20. Both destinations are subject to U.S. Travel warnings.
