Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged he has considered the risk of an emergency aircraft landing in a country that recognizes the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant against him, though he suggested Israel's military capabilities could address such a scenario.
During a Tuesday night Fox News interview with Sean Hannity, Netanyahu was asked about concerns that a medical emergency could force his plane to land in a jurisdiction recognizing the ICC warrant. "Yes, I think about it," Netanyahu said.
He continued, "We have special forces around. I served for five years." When Hannity referenced the Israel Defense Forces' military reputation, Netanyahu replied, "Let's give them a new task," While smiling.
Netanyahu has maintained international travel despite the ICC's arrest warrant, issued as part of an investigation into the Gaza war. Israel has rejected the court's jurisdiction and characterized the warrant as politically motivated.
