The Orthodox Union's executive vice president and chief operating officer appeared on Fox News Digital to express concern that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's recent statements about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have alarmed the Jewish community and could contribute to further unrest.
Rabbi Dr. Josh Joseph discussed the mayor's characterization of Netanyahu as a "war criminal" And "the architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people." Though Mamdani acknowledged New York City lacks authority to enforce an International Criminal Court arrest warrant, he stated Netanyahu is "not welcome in New York City" And called for protests during the prime minister's anticipated visit for the United Nations General Assembly in September.
Joseph told Fox News Digital that "We know that the protests in the last few years have gotten violent at times. So, he's willing to risk inciting further violence based on misinformation."
Joseph noted that as mayor, Mamdani's responsibility includes the safety and protection of all New Yorkers, including the city's Jewish population. He cautioned that when elected officials amplify rhetoric and misinformation contributing to antisemitism, the consequences can be serious.
Joseph urged Mamdani to "remember that his words matter" In his official capacity. He nonetheless expressed faith in the strength of New York's Jewish community.
