Several Israeli municipalities opened public bomb shelters on Thursday as security officials warned that escalating tensions between the United States and Iran could affect Israel, with concerns that Tehran might target the country.
Ramat Gan was among the cities taking precautionary steps, with Mayor Carmel Shama-Hacohen ordering municipal officials to unlock public shelters despite no official changes from the Home Front Command's guidelines.
City officials stressed the decision was precautionary and aimed at ensuring residents would be ready if the security situation worsened.
The municipality also asked building committees and residential associations to inspect and prepare shared bomb shelters for immediate use if necessary.
"Municipal officials, led by the mayor, are in continuous contact with the Home Front Command," The Ramat Gan municipality said.
Other municipalities including Karmiel and Eilat implemented similar precautions as local authorities across the country monitored the volatile regional situation and prepared for a possible Iranian attack.
