The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, received a delegation from the Union of Rabbis in Islamic Countries at his residence in Doha to offer condolences following his father's death.
The delegation included Rabbi Menachem Mendel Chitrik, the Shliach and Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Turkey; his son Rabbi Eliyahu Chitrik, the Rebbe's Shliach in Qatar; and Chief Rabbi of Iran Rabbi Yehuda Gerami.
During the meeting, the rabbis conveyed their condolences and expressed appreciation for the Emir's support of Jewish life in Qatar, noting his role in enabling the local Jewish community and Jewish visitors to practice their faith openly.
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Chitrik later posted on X: "My sincere gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for warmly receiving the delegation of the Union of Rabbis in Islamic Countries. I am grateful for His Highness's support in ensuring the flourishing of Jewish life in Qatar, and for enabling my son, Rabbi Eliyahu Chitrik, to serve the Jewish community and the many visitors there."
The visit represents efforts by the Union of Rabbis in Islamic Countries to build relationships with regional government leaders while supporting Jewish communities in Muslim-majority nations, and highlight the work of the Rebbe's emissaries in Qatar serving both the local Jewish population and visiting Jews to the Gulf nation.
