Radio host and author Michael Savage argued Sunday that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani could face deportation under the Communist Control Act of 1954, a Cold War-era federal law designed to combat communism.
Speaking on Newsmax's "Sunday Agenda," Savage contended the statute remains valid and could provide legal grounds for removing Mamdani from the country. "Mamdani can be deported under the Communist Control Act of 1954," Savage said. "That law is still on the books from the Eisenhower era, when this country was riddled with communists."
Savage made the comments while criticizing Mamdani's proposal for five municipally owned grocery stores in New York City, describing the plan as representative of communist-style governance.
Savage invoked a classical comparison to illustrate his prediction about Mamdani's political trajectory. "He's acting like the Greek mythological figure Icarus," Savage said. "Icarus was a young man who thought he was great and could fly to the sun. He collected bird feathers and put wax on the feathers and made wooden wings. He started flying to the sun. The closer he got to the sun, the hotter the air got. Eventually, the wax melted, the feathers fell off his fake wings, and he crashed to Earth. That's Icarus. Let us pray that Mamdani's wax will melt, and he will eventually fall to Earth."
Savage also asserted that Mamdani's governing philosophy reflects communist ideology. "He is enacting one step after another of the Communist Manifesto," Savage said.
Savage additionally took issue with Mamdani's publication of a database identifying owners of properties potentially affected by a proposed second homes tax, characterizing it as part of a gradual effort to transform the city's economic system. "He is doing it by degree," Savage said. "He's doing it slowly and by degree. The people are suddenly understanding what they elected."
Savage attributed the rise of figures like Mamdani to Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and democratic socialism's growing acceptance in American politics. "The man behind it all is Bernie Sanders," Savage said. "He created all of these monsters with his big lie about democratic socialism. It's just a cover for communism."
In closing, Savage urged federal action against the mayor. "The ACLU will disagree with me," Savage said. "I say deport him along with them and let them all go to Cuba. This man is a clear and present danger to the survival not only of New York, but of the entire nation."
