When Luc fils Jasmin applied to the Washington State Human Rights Commission in January 2023, he did not disclose that his son, Luc Jasmin III, held a position as eastern Washington outreach representative to the governor - the official responsible for appointing and removing commissioners.

The younger Jasmin continues in that state position. He is also running for the state House to represent the second position of the third district, a race in which Gov. Bob Ferguson has endorsed him.

The elder Jasmin made remarks at a state panel meeting stating that "it seems like the Jewish people keep on crying and crying and crying and crying - always crying over the antisemitism." He later apologized and resigned.

When initially contacted about the comments, the younger Jasmin responded on his father's behalf, telling JNS his father "applied just like everyone else." During that conversation, Luc Jasmin III declined to characterize Hamas as a terror organization, saying "I don't think it's fair to me to label any group, because I'm not in it." His Republican opponent, Natalie Poulson, criticized this refusal as "discrediting."

The younger Jasmin's campaign has raised more than $83,000 and spent approximately $81,000, with the candidate self-funding in part and receiving donations from his father. The campaign owes $7,945 to WinPower Strategies, a political consultancy that represents Rep. Adam Smith.

On his application, the elder Jasmin listed his son as a professional reference but identified him only as a program coordinator for the Carl Maxey Center in Spokane and left blank a line requesting description of their relationship, despite describing relationships to his other three references. He answered "no" When asked whether family members might be financially affected by commission decisions.

The primary election is scheduled for August 4, with the top two candidates advancing to the general election. The younger Jasmin has received endorsements from both Ferguson and former governor Jay Inslee and is listed as the "preferred" Candidate in the Council on American-Islamic Relations 2026 Washington voter guide.
