R. Elazar, son of R. Shimon bar Yochai, died in 102 CE.
Rav Yechiel Michel of Zlotchov (1721-1786) was the son of Rabbi Yitzchak of Drohovitch, who introduced him to the Baal Shem Tov in his youth. He studied under the Maggid of Mezritch, and his teachings were compiled in Mayim Rabim. Among his notable disciples was Rav Yehoshua Heshel of Apta. The Zlotschover Maggid fathered five sons, each of whom became a Rebbe in different locations: R' Yosef of Yampola, R' Mordechai of Kremnitz, R' Yitzchak of Radvil, R' Binyamin of Zbariz, and R' Moshe of Zvhil, who founded the Zvhiller dynasty.
Rav Avraham Horowitz (1925-2004) was a close student of the Steipler Gaon. He studied at Novardok Yeshiva in Tel Aviv and later at Eitz Chaim in Jerusalem. At age 18, he married the daughter of Rav Chaim Yehuda Leib Auerbach, father of Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach. Horowitz served as the Steipler's study partner for decades and developed a close relationship with the Chazon Ish as well. He authored Orchos Rabbeinu, detailing the customs and daily practices of the Steipler and the Chazon Ish, and wrote a series of halachic works titled Devar Halacha.
The wall surrounding Jerusalem was completed under Nechemia's leadership in 371 BCE. In 1654, a group of 23 Jews from Recife, Brazil arrived in New Amsterdam, later known as New York, establishing the foundation of the city's Jewish community.
