In a significant community decision, members of Toldos Aharon voted overwhelmingly to proceed with construction of a new central beis medrash on Rechov Meah Shearim following months of discussion. The proposal received support from 83% of participants, marking approval for a major building initiative in the community's history.
The Building Fund Committee brought the matter to a community-wide referendum after concerns emerged that global economic conditions, reduced overseas donations, and currency fluctuations would increase the financial burden on community members in Eretz Yisroel beyond original projections.
In communications before the vote, the committee noted that the project had reached a critical juncture. Once demolition of the existing structure begins and construction start, the committee stated, halting the undertaking would become impractical. The committee also pledged that should the community vote to delay, it would cancel the project entirely and return all collected donations.
The vote took place under supervision of the community's dayanim and rabbanim, who oversaw ballot counting and certified results. The final tally showed 83% in favor of proceeding and 17% voting to postpone.
Following the referendum, results were transmitted to the Toldos Aharon Rebbe, who was vacationing in Hungary. The Rebbe expressed satisfaction with the community's decision and gave his brachah for the project to proceed.
Preparations for construction are underway, with work expected to begin after the upcoming Tishrei Yomim Tovim. The referendum approval launches what the community expects to become one of its most significant building projects.
