TOP COUNSEL: Trump Promotes Jewish Attorney Will Scharf To Powerful White House Legal Post

President Donald Trump announced Monday that he is promoting Jewish attorney Will Scharf, a close White House ally, to White House Counsel and Assistant to the President, effective September 1. Scharf will replace David Warrington, who is departing to return to the private sector.

Currently serving as White House Staff Secretary, Scharf, 40, has held that position since Trump returned to office in January 2025. In that role, he has managed and coordinated documents and materials reaching the president, including executive orders, memoranda, speeches, briefings and legislative proposals. He has also become a visible presence during Oval Office executive order signings, where he has stood alongside Trump and explained the substance and purpose of executive actions to reporters and cameras.

Trump announced the appointment on Truth Social, writing that "Will is tough, strong, and smart! He also loves our Country and respects the LAW," And that Scharf "will do an excellent job" In his new position. Trump noted that Scharf previously represented him before the U.S. Supreme Court.

As White House Counsel, Scharf will serve as a central legal adviser to the presidency and play a major role in navigating legal issues confronting the White House. Scharf has been a longtime Trump ally and previously served on the president's legal team, including in Supreme Court litigation.
