President Donald Trump announced Thursday that an agreement has been reached to completely disarm Hamas and all other armed terrorist groups in Gaza, describing it as a landmark diplomatic achievement that he said will enable a new governing authority in the territory and provide lasting security for Israel.
In a Truth Social post, Trump stated that the international Board of Peace had finalized what he characterized as a breakthrough accord for the total demilitarization of Gaza's terrorist organizations. "Today, the Board of Peace reached a HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. This is a monumental step toward lasting PEACE and SECURITY," He wrote.
Trump said the agreement would allow Gaza to transition to a new governing body and end the territory's use as a launching pad for attacks on Israel. "This agreement is a critical step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people. At the same time, Israel will have the security it deserves, with Gaza no longer used as a base for terror attacks," Trump wrote.
According to Trump, the accord will be implemented in stages. As terrorist groups surrender weapons, Israeli forces will gradually withdraw while an International Stabilization Force working with a new Palestinian police force assumes responsibility for maintaining order. Trump said the agreement represents "a major milestone in the implementation of the Trump 20-Point Plan."
Trump noted the shift from conditions a year earlier, stating, "One year ago there was a violent raging war, humanitarian crisis and hostages kept in brutal captivity. We have made historic progress and there is still much work to do."
He thanked Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye for their mediation efforts and credited his administration's work on the diplomatic initiative. Trump also stated that "The threat that emerged from Gaza on October 7 will NOT be allowed to rebuild!" And emphasized that "Gaza will finally be in the hands of a new Palestinian government that serves its PEOPLE."
The announcement followed a report from Israel's Channel 13 News that Hamas had conveyed to the White House its willingness to accept a ceasefire lasting between 10 and 15 years, conditioned on Israel halting targeted strikes and gradually withdrawing forces. Israeli officials dismissed the reported proposal as Hamas "spin," Stating the group's demands did not align with the framework negotiated under Trump's peace initiative.
