U.S. President Donald Trump is "keeping all options on the table" Regarding Iran, according to U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz, who made the statement on NBC News on Sunday.
Waltz said the administration is pursuing diplomatic channels to reach a peaceful agreement with Tehran, but noted that internal divisions within the Iranian regime are creating significant obstacles to negotiations. "There is internal fighting [in Tehran]. Some are seeking the guidance of the Supreme Leader, [Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei], others want to move into a different direction, and that makes it hugely challenging from a diplomatic standpoint, to get to some reasonable resolution," He said.
The U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding signed in Versailles on June 17 has collapsed, with the United States reimposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports. Members of the Trump administration have suggested the possibility of renewed military action against Iran.
In response, the Islamic Republic of Iran Army issued a warning on Sunday that the conflict could expand geographically if the United States resumes military operations. Army spokesman Brig. Gen. Mohammad Akraminia stated, "I believe that if the Americans once again fall for the Zionists' deception, or move in line with them, and insist on continuing the war, particularly through airstrikes, geographically this will expand further."
Akraminia referenced the regime's Houthi proxy and said the scope of operations could extend across the region, stating, "The scope of our operations now encompasses the entire region, from U.S. bases in Jordan to the countries along the Persian Gulf."
