Biden's 2023 secret train journey to Kyiv included two journalists who documented the trip. Trump's 2019 Thanksgiving visit to Afghanistan maintained a separate press pool and decoy plane in Florida. Clinton's 2000 secret trip to Pakistan involved reporters knowing the president was traveling but uncertain which plane he occupied, with officials briefing the press pool beforehand.

Graff emphasized the importance of press presence to "the presidency and democracy," Stating the White House "fundamentally doesn't understand how important that role is."
