Understanding Oct. 7 as a 'collective descent into evil'

Documentary filmmaker Gloria Greenfield discusses her new film examining the October 7 attacks and global responses to them with JNS editor-in-chief Jonathan Tobin on this week's episode of "Think Twice."

Greenfield's documentary, "A Collective Descent Into Evil: The Lethal Obsession with Jews and the Jewish State," Features scholars, writers and commentators addressing not only the attacks themselves, but also the worldwide reactions that supported the perpetrators. The film explores the motivations, ideologies and strategies behind the Hamas-led Palestinian Arab terror attacks on southern Israel, as well as those who have defended them.

According to Greenfield, the violence stemmed from decades of indoctrination against Israel, Jews and the West. She notes the same ideological currents fueled demonstrations on college campuses and in American cities supporting the attackers. The goal, she states, extended beyond Israel: "It's also about destroying the free world and destroying people that don't subscribe to Islamist ideologies."

Greenfield, a feminist publisher, attributes the widespread tolerance for antisemitism to the influence of Marxist and radical ideologies within American institutions. She left the feminist movement due to its acceptance of Jew-hatred.
