The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem said Saturday that the Middle East situation remains complex with potential for "unforeseen escalation."
The embassy warned American citizens in the region to prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions if tensions with Iran and Iranian-backed groups intensify. Multiple airlines have already suspended or canceled routes, the embassy noted.
Americans are advised to reconsider travel to the Middle East, while those already there should consider leaving the region.
"U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted. Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions," The embassy stated on its website.
