Vance Lays Out U.S. Endgame in Iran: Keep Oil Prices Low, Ensure Tehran Never Gets the Bomb

Vice President JD Vance outlined the Trump administration's strategy regarding Iran, stating that the confrontation centers on two primary objectives: maintaining stable global energy prices and preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

In a Fox News interview, Vance expressed confidence about the trajectory of the conflict. "The thing I can say with confidence is I think this ends with the United States in a stronger position, with Iran not having a nuclear weapon, and with the Strait of Hormuz returned to a place where oil and gas prices are stable for the American people," He said.

Vance acknowledged the unpredictability of negotiations with Iran, noting that the regime has repeatedly failed to honor its commitments. He emphasized that the administration has diplomatic, economic, and military options available to employ as circumstances warrant.

"I think the issue here is that the Iranians sometimes make commitments that they don't honor. They make a deal, they don't honor the deal," Vance stated. He added that the administration employs "a lot of tools at our disposal to compel action," Sometimes focusing on energy affordability and sometimes on military or nuclear concerns.

Describing the overall approach, Vance said President Trump is selectively and strategically deploying American power rather than acting indiscriminately. "We're using those tools very selectively, very strategically to get the outcome that the president of the United States needs to get for the benefit of the American people," He explained.

The first priority, according to Vance, is ensuring Gulf countries continue supplying oil and gas to maintain price stability. The second objective is preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. "I feel confident we're accomplishing both of those goals, but it's inherently an unpredictable thing because the Iranians themselves are unpredictable and they sometimes don't honor the commitments they've made to us," Vance concluded.

Vance's comments followed recent statements by President Trump regarding potential military escalation with Iran, including warnings about diplomatic negotiations being Tehran's final opportunity before "decapitation." Trump stated, "You'll find out," When pressed on whether significant escalation remained possible. He also asserted U.S. Control over the Hormuz Strait and expressed skepticism toward Iranian leadership, stating "I'm the last person to trust Iran. They've lied to me constantly.
