Vance Softens Tone on Israel, Denies Confrontation With Netanyahu

Vice President JD Vance rejected characterizations of a contentious meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, instead describing their recent Washington discussion as constructive and reaffirming the U.S.-Israel relationship.

Addressing a report by Axios journalist Barak Ravid about tension between the two leaders, Vance stated that Netanyahu "did not confront me" And called the exchange "pleasant but direct."

Vance emphasized Israel's importance as a U.S. Partner, noting that like other allied nations, disagreements can arise. "As I have said time and again, Israel is an excellent partner. It is an ally of the United States," Vance said. "Like France, Britain, or any other ally of the United States, we also have differences of opinion at times."

He acknowledged media interest in the relationship's dynamics while stressing that his priority is advancing American interests. "When our interests and Israel's interests coincide, we discuss how to achieve our common goals. And when my position differs from that of the Israeli Prime Minister, we have a direct and honest conversation about it," Vance said, adding, "I did not feel that I was confronted."

The remarks represented a more measured approach from the vice president regarding Israel following the reported meeting.
