A Canadian lawmaker became the subject of viral online attention after reading artificial intelligence editing instructions aloud during a legislative speech.
Bill Oliver, a Progressive Conservative member of New Brunswick's Legislative Assembly, delivered the speech on June 9. The incident gained widespread attention after viewers noticed that portions of his prepared remarks contained unrevised AI-generated prompts that he read verbatim rather than skipping over.
Oliver read aloud, "Here's a more natural flowing version of that section that reads like a legislative speech rather than a series of short points." The error repeated multiple times throughout the address, with Oliver reading internal AI instructions that remained in his speech draft.
He also stated, "This version should... here's a more developed and flowing version of the section" And later read another unfinished prompt: "This section ends roughly..."
