Young Talmidim Master 12 Perakim of Tanya by Heart

Oholei Torah's Yeshivas Kayitz Gan Menachem summer program concluded with its annual end-of-year banquet, bringing together students, parents, grandparents, educators, counselors, and staff. The event featured singing, dancing, stories, a summer recap, raffles, and food, along with special recognition of staff members.

The centerpiece was a ceremony honoring 12 second-grade students for mastering 12 chapters of Tanya by heart. The initiative began during the school year when their teacher, Rabbi Shmuel Filler, challenged the class to collectively learn 71 chapters of Tanya Baal Peh in honor of Oholei Torah's 70th year. As students progressed, they exceeded expectations, ultimately learning more than 200 chapters collectively.

"I've done Mishnayos Baal Peh for the many, many years that I've been teaching in Oholei Torah," Rabbi Filler said. "Usually, boys will learn Perek Aleph, Perek Lamed Beis, Perek Mem Aleph, and perhaps a few others. Hardly ever more than that. This year, the boys worked incredibly hard and went far beyond every goal we set."

The 12 students who reached the milestone each received a personalized leather-bound Tanya with his name in gold lettering. Rabbi Filler also received a personalized volume in recognition of his dedication. Every camper received a special ice cream treat in celebration of the achievement.

The banquet concluded a summer under the direction of Rabbi Mendel Levin, featuring davening, learning, and recreational activities including baking, crafts, trips, and weekly performances. The program concluded with appreciation extended to staff and volunteers.
