A British pop star released a reggae song with Hebrew lyrics directly to social media, captioning it "Shalom" And refusing to remove it despite swift backlash. The track, "Od Nirkod" ("We Will Dance Again"), names October 7 and includes the lyric: "If you're ever confused: I stand with the Jews."

The artist, who built a career as an openly gay icon and one of the most recognizable figures in modern pop culture, has spent years supporting Israel through various public acts - including concerts in Tel Aviv, collaborations with Israeli artists, and statements defending Israel's presence in international forums. His willingness to take this stance publicly distinguishes him from many peers in entertainment and progressive circles.

The pattern reflects a broader dynamic: solidarity with Israel remains uncommon among entertainment figures and segments of the LGBT and progressive movements, despite the stakes involved. Iran executes gay men. Hamas has killed suspected homosexuals in Gaza. The Muslim Brotherhood's ideology criminalizes homosexuality. Yet some progressive and LGBT activists support regimes and organizations that would execute them, while opposing the one regional country where gay people can marry, speak freely and exercise rights.

This represents something distinct from legitimate policy criticism or acknowledgment of Palestinian suffering. Rather, it amounts to the adoption of talking points originating from terror organizations and the Islamic Republic, repackaged in the language of human rights until antisemitic rhetoric circulates under a progressive banner.

The artist's contribution was straightforward: refusing silence, stating truth in his own voice on his platform, and accepting the cost. That example - that it remains possible - may be the assignment for others facing similar pressure to stay quiet.
