Shlomie Rabin Named Cantor at Chabad of Port Washington

Chabad of Port Washington on Long Island, New York, has appointed Shlomie Rabin as its full-time cantor, formalizing a role that has gradually expanded since he began leading High Holiday services at the community in 2019, accompanied by a choir.

As the congregation grew, there was increased interest in incorporating more musical elements into regular worship services. Rabin's initial occasional appearances evolved into a pilot program where he visited approximately once monthly, sometimes more frequently. After receiving strong congregant response over the winter and spring, Chabad made the arrangement permanent.

The appointment follows a significant expansion and renovation of the Chabad Center.

Rabbi Shalom Paltiel, the longtime director of Chabad of Port Washington, described the need for the position. "As a Shliach in a beautiful suburban area, I want to make the Shul experience as enjoyable as possible, but to touch people with song and music requires a different talent than a Rabbi's speaking," He said. "Shlomie Rabin bridges that gap for us."

Rabin expressed enthusiasm about the role, stating, "Getting a position like this is a rare opportunity and a special honor. During the weeks I am not serving in Port Washington, I look forward to visiting other communities to share more songs and continue learning from each location."
