Hunter Biden: Joe Biden's Cancer Has Spread, Condition 'Very Painful' And Debilitating

Joe Biden is battling advanced prostate cancer that has spread beyond his bones, according to his son Hunter Biden. Speaking to the BBC on Friday, Hunter Biden said of his father's condition: "The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further. It's very painful and it's very debilitating in many respects."

The 83-year-old former president announced his stage four prostate cancer diagnosis in May 2025. Hunter Biden described the experience of watching his father cope with the illness as difficult, stating: "It's really sad to watch. The only thing that I'd say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more, because it's not good."

Despite the diagnosis, Biden has maintained a public schedule. He attended a Maryland Democratic Party gala in late June and participated in ceremonies for the opening of the Obama presidential library in Chicago earlier that month. Hunter Biden said his father "is still out there. He's still doing his thing. He so believes in this country."

Biden is also continuing work on his memoir, Promise Me, America, which is scheduled for publication after the midterm elections.

Former first lady Jill Biden, 75, revealed in an interview with Kelly Ripa that she noticed her husband getting up to use the bathroom as many as seven times nightly while they were in the White House. After the couple left the White House in January 2025 and the symptoms persisted, she told him: "Joe, we've got to go up to Jeff in Philly, something's wrong." In June, Jill Biden said her husband "will have to live with cancer for the rest of his life, which means he's on special medicines."

When Biden initially disclosed his diagnosis, his office described it as an "aggressive form" Of prostate cancer identified after he sought treatment for urinary symptoms. Doctors also found a "nodule" On his prostate. By October, he had begun radiation treatments combined with hormone therapy.
