Mossad Shakeup: Senior Officials Ousted After Secret Iran Regime-Change Strategy Collapses

Mossad Director Roman Gofman has removed two senior intelligence officials following the collapse of a covert operation intended to destabilize Iran's government, according to Channel 12. The dismissed officials were key architects of the plan, which was abandoned after President Donald Trump declined to proceed with it.

The departing officials include the head of the Mossad Intelligence Directorate, who took the position last December, and the chief of the Iran Desk.

Defense officials told Channel 12 that friction emerged shortly after Gofman's arrival at the agency, with limited rapport between the new director and the two officials. However, sources indicated the dismissals extended beyond interpersonal tensions.

Both officials played central roles in developing the operational strategy aimed at triggering the collapse of Iran's ruling regime. The proposal was presented to President Trump but was never executed despite significant preparation.

Though officially described as departures by mutual agreement, defense sources characterized the move as accountability for the operation's failure to proceed.

Reports earlier indicated the Mossad had supplied Kurdish militias with weapons seized from Hamas during the Gaza conflict and from Hezbollah in Lebanon, as part of a broader effort to weaken Iran's regime. The Kurdish forces received financial assistance, vehicles, small arms, anti-tank missiles, grenades, and mortar rounds.

The CIA was reported to have played a major role in the joint effort to arm the Kurdish militias. Despite close coordination between American and Israeli intelligence agencies, the operation never reached full implementation and was halted after Washington's political leadership chose to abandon it. President Trump ultimately ordered the plan scrapped.

According to the report, Trump's decision followed intense pressure from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which ended the weapons transfers and forced both the Mossad and CIA to terminate the joint operation targeting Tehran.
