Unverified Report Claims Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Is Critically Ill, Could Die at Any Moment

An Iranian opposition media outlet reports that Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in extremely poor health and could die at any moment, according to unnamed sources said to be close to President Masoud Pezeshkian's government. The claims remain unconfirmed by other sources.

According to IranWire, two individuals described as close to President Pezeshkian stated that no members of the Iranian cabinet have met with Khamenei since a Feb. 28 U.S. Strike on the Supreme Leader's compound, in which his father and several other family members were killed.

These sources also claimed that rumors are circulating within Iran's highest levels of leadership that Khamenei is in critical condition and may not survive much longer.

Since taking the position of Supreme Leader, Khamenei has made no public appearances and delivered no speeches. Aside from several letters attributed to him published by official Iranian state news agencies, he has remained out of public view. His absence has prompted speculation about his health and ability to continue leading the Islamic Republic.

A separate source described as close to President Pezeshkian's cabinet told IranWire that no cabinet member has had contact with Khamenei since he took office and claimed his physical condition has deteriorated significantly. "We would not be surprised if we soon hear news of his holy death," The source said.

No other media outlets or independent sources have corroborated the report.
